light connected to two 3way switches

Power source is from light tow two three way switches using 12/4 wiring. When first switch is turned on the second switch will not function, but when first switch is turned off second switch works correctly. Have switched power source wires and it had no effect. Do I have a common wire reversed at one of the switches? The breaker does not flip so I don't think it's a short.
Frustrated!!

Yup sounds like a common wire on one of the three way sws is swapped with a traveler.

Why 12-4? Or do you mean 12-3 WG?

Make sure your load is attached to one of the black screws on one switch and the line is attached to the black screw on the other switch. The travellers don't matter.
