Hardwire Under Cabinet Rope Light??
#1

Can Undercabinet Rope lights be hardwired?
All of the ones that I have seen at Lowes are plug in type.
I would like to be able to control the rope lights with a dimmer switch, and I believe that I read that you are not suppose to use a dimmer on a receptacle. Is this correct??
thanks-
Eric

2 options.
1) there are receptacles available that you change out the end on the plug for teh light fixture and plug it into the new receptacle and allows for dimming (a dimmable receptacle)
2) contact your inspector and run it by him/her. You would be surprised. Every area is diferent and every inspectors interpretation of a General Purpose recptacle is different. So it is best to ask the person who will do the inspection.

"Are you aware of a hard wired Rope Light option?"
Not allowed by code according to my local inspector. His reasoning (IMO correct) is that the cord on the rope light is essentially an extension cord. Extension cords may not be hardwired or buried in a wall.
Your inspector may allow a dimmable receptacle if it is dedicated to the undercabinet lights.
