outdoor wiring

The wiring for my outdoor lampost needs to be lengthened approx 2-3 feet in order to install a new lampost and light. Are there any special considerations when splicing outdoor wire? Thanks--

Will the splice be underground or will it be in the pole? Is this in underground cable or is it in conduit?

There are splice kits made rated for underground use with cable. They are called UF splices.

No conduit--it's underground cable. Splice will likely be underground although it may be possible to make splice within post. Suggestions?
Many thanks!
