Ceiling fan light dims by itself

I added a ceiling fan to a room that originally had no ceiling lighting. I changed the switch on the wall that used to control a nearby outlet to a ceiling fan switch - the outlet is now live all the time. I've noticed that sometimes the light on the ceiling fan dims for a second without anyone touching the dimmer control on the switch. Any ideas what would cause this?

Any device starting up in your house could cause this.

Since you didn't make a new run to this light, most likely a compressor like on a refrigerator or freezer is doing a drawdown.
