I took down a single-bulb (incandescent) ceiling light fixture in order to do some painting. There was some fiberglass insulation in the base. A good portion of it was black. It didn't smell smoky or like an electrical fire, but it still worries me. Is this normal? Is this simply the fiberglass doing its job? Should I buy a new fixture? Any ideas what it could be? I have about 30 flood lights in my house each being 75W or 100W. As an example in my kitchen, I have 4 - 100W flood lights. This may be a stupid question, but if I replace those 4 lights with 4 CFL - 26W Energy Light Bulbs = 100W, will I be saving about 3/4 of the cost to light my kitchen since 4 CFL lights is equivalent to 104W as oppose to 400W that I am currently using? Also, will the brightness be the same if I use 4 CFL 26W light bulbs in comparison to 4 - 100 incandescent bulb? If I will be saving a lot money in energy then I may replace all my flood lights to energy saving light bulbs. Finally, all my lights are flood lights in recessed fixtures. I know they sell energy saving flood lights at a higher cost, but does it ruin the look if I use the spiral lights instead?
