Wire Plug To Fluorescent Light Fixture?

I want to know if I can wire a plug/extension cord to a flourescent light fixture. If so what kind of cord should I get. I am building a box to mount the fixture in on my living room wall.

I would use number 14-3 SJO cord. Get a 1/2 inch trade size strain relief connector. They make plastic ones. They have a rubber gromet that you tighten down on the SJ cord. You will need a 7/8 inch hole saw if there is no knockout in the fixture where you need one.

You will also need to be sure that your cord cap (plug) is the grounding type. Flourcent lights do not like to work well without a ground wire.
