Fan switch

I have 7 or 8 Voranado fans scattered throughout my house. They have the variable speed switches on them and recently a few of them have gone out. I pulled one apart and found the fan works but the rheostat is shot. I've bought the new type fans but they only come with a 3 way switch so the fan speed can't be controled like I would like. Voronado says they won't sell the switch.
So the question is what will work? Will a household dimmer switch work or do I need something more exotic?

Thaks for your help

Do not connect a household dimmer to fan. You would likely burn out the motor.

Use only a speed control recommended or approved by the fan manufacturer. If they won't sell you something and/or won't recommend something, then live with three on speeds and one off speed.
