ceiling fan with light kit wiring woes
I'm replacing an old ceiling fan with a new one, but am having trouble getting it to work. I think it's a wiring problem...
There are:
2 black
2 red
2 ground wires ...coming from the ceiling.
There are:
1 white
1 black
1 ground wires...coming from the fan.
I have connected all 3 blacks together, all 3 whites together and all 3 grounds together, but am not able to get any power whatsoever.
There is also a wall transmitter that controls the speed and light with this new fan...The problem is, the old fan had one switch for the light, and another for the fan. How does this get hooked up?
Help!

OK, universal question. When you took down the other fan, how were the wires hooked up? If you have two switches, you have two switch loops. It is possible one black goes to the fan and the other to the light, but we won't know until you pony up the information.

Yes. The old fan had one switch on the wall for the fan, and another for the lights.
The old fan was hooked up like this...
Coming from the ceiling...
2 reds, one to the fan's white, the other to the fan's orange
2 blacks, both to the fan's 2 blacks
2 copper, both to the fan's green (or maybe one to the fan's casing -- we were bad and didn't pay too much attention to the grounds)
The old fan also had a chain you could pull for the lights.
With the new wall transmitter, everything is supposed to be on one switch. ALso, the new fan doesn't have a chain on it for the lights.
