Ceiling Fan stays on

I replaced ceiling light (braced fixture) with new Hunter fan.
and is controlled by single pole switch.

The problem ceiling junction box has two white wires
two black wires
one red wire

Fan motor has Black, White, and Black/White wires

Single pole switch has black wire at top and red wire at
bottom.

1st try

I put all white wires together with cap
All black wires together
Red wire with Black/white wire
fan stays on with wall switch in on or off position.

2nd try

All white wires together
All black wires together plus red and black/white
Fan stays on with wall switch in on or off position

3rd try.

All white together plus b/w wire
All black together plus red wire

Fan stans on with wall switch in on or off position.

Can someone - HELP!

First, why did you no pay attention to how the light was wired? You should have.

Second, do you have another switched light or switched receptacle in this room? If not you likely have created a code violation.

Third, tell us ALL wires at the light and how they are connected to anything. Be specific. Tell us wires what cables exist and what wires are in those cables.

One of two wiring methods is in use, and rather than guess myself, I want to tell you the correct way.

In the box that contains the switch, what wires are in there? Not just the ones that are connected to the switch... everything you see in the box.

I'm guessing there is a single cable coming in there which has black, red, and white wires? And the white wire is capped off and not connected to anything?

You said fan not fan with light so can we assume(very bad thing) that there is no light on this fan? If there is a light did you try the switch and then try turning the fan light on with the pull chain?
The black and white stripe is the hookup for the light kit. Cap that wire and do your first setup with the fan black connected to the red wire.

Light stays on...

My dad just replaced a ceiling fan with a new one. The fan and light on it worked. Now, the new fixture satys on and the switch is in effect, useless. He said that there were two black, two white, and one red coming out of the ceiling(junction box). There is a red and a white on the fixture. What seems to be the problem? New switch receptacle?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
