Ok, I realize this might be totally crazy but I am going to ask it anyway. I have an older ceiling exhaust fan/light in my bathroom. It works fine but it's U-G-L-Y. I can't seem to find any that I like to replace it with. I removed the plastic transparent cover (for the light) as well as the square plastic thing that snaps into the metal fixture itself (which holds the light cover on). Basically it's just cheap plastic with holes in it to allow air for the fan. Here is what I would like to do: Build a box frame to mount onto the ceiling around the current opening. Leave the old fan/light fixture itself in. From the new box frame I can put hinges onto another part that will hinge down so that the bulb can be changed (and add a latch to hold it closed when it's all set). It will have adequate air holes for the fan to work. I can build a small edge which can hold a piece of glass in as a cover. It's hard to explain but I have a little plan drawn up. The million dollar question is......is it ok to make a "fixture" with wood? Would a 60 or 75 W bulb cause this to burst into flames? :madhell: Thanks for helping me with my crazy ideas!!!

I had purchased three halogen pendants to hang over my kitchen island a year back. Now two of these do not work. I tried replacing the bulbs and thats not it. I am suspecting the electronic transformers inside these pendants. Anybody know a good place to buy these? (HD did not seem to carry it.) Also, the previous transformer was 12V, 60W. Do I need one with the exact same specs or can I get say a 12V, 75W and stick in the same old bulbs in it? Thanks a bunch! Vivek
