Problem replacing a light switch.

Hello

I'm changing the switch that controls the attic light. The attic light worked after connecting all the wires to the new switch, but now the bedroom down the hall has no power. I see that the box that holds the switch has 3 black wires and I must not have reconnected the 3 wires to the new switch correctly. Do I need a special switch to get this job done or do I connect the black wires in a certain sequence on the new switch?

Thank you.

What most likely happened was the box contained a power in, power out and a switched power out to the light. The one that feeds the bedroom is now on the switched power. Try and turn the attic switch on and see if the power is restored to the bedroom.

If this is the case you will just need to find which cable goes to the bedroom and move it to the unswitched power. You only have 2 choices so this should be easy. Be sure to only have one wire per screw. You may need a short pigtail of wire to join the two to the switch screw.
