3 wires black, red & tan which is which

I have replaced light fixtures many times. usually it isn't that hard to do. ( black to black white to white)
I have three wires hanging from the ceiling they are black red and a tan ... I see a copper wire balled up in the corner connected to nothing. I think the copper wire should be my ground ... now what are my other three?

You probably have the ability to have more than one switch in the switch box to control a fan/light combo. Remove the cover plate at the switch that controls this fixture box. You may see a red wire with a cap on it. If so that is what you have. You can safely cap the red wire in the ceiling and use the black and tan (faded white) as usual. Grounding wire to grounding wire, of course. Let us know about that red wire in case we need to dive further into it.
