Kitchen ceiling fan/light not working

Background: Yesterday I tried to replace one of the four bulbs in the lights of the fan/light combo. When I twisted the bulb, the base of the bulb broke off in the socket and shorted out all the lights. The fan still works, but now the lights don't operate and one of the sockets twisted out and shorted. I tried to replace the socket and have been unsuccessful in getting the lights to work again. I need some help here... Any suggestions?

Lights

Replace the light fixture portion of the fan/light combo.

That's a tough one Dustman. I'm afraid Wirepuller's short answer is the best one. When they wire those light fixtures, the wires can run through the frame and tubes and whatever, however your light is built. When something gets shorted inside, there is no way of telling where. And, even if it suddenly started working, it would still be a fire risk.
A new light for Christmas would be perfect. I'm buying my sweetheart a new furnace
