fan behaving strangly

I have a strange thing occurring with a a ceiling fan I just installed. Let me give you some background. I finished my basement a few years ago. When I did we installed a light fixture in the bedroom. We were always planning for a fan so I put in a three gang box on the off chance that I may need two switches for the future fan. So if you look at the box left to right I have a switch that works the ceiling fixture, a blank, and a switch that works lights over the dresser.

Just over a week ago we installed the ceiling fan. It is a Hunter brand with no remote. Because it had no remote I also installed a Hunter brand after market remote. I did not have to touch the switches. The remote connected to the black wire from the switch, the white wire from the switch and the ground. All other connections were inside the fan.

Everything went fine for about a week. However I was concerned because the electrical box was not designed for a fan. (I trusted a Home Depot employee, big mistake). So I decided to put in a remodel support for the fan, which would entail removing the fan from the ceiling. My wife also wanted me to move the switches so the switch on the left would work the lights over the dresser and the one on the right would work the fan. So I move the switches. I marked all the wires and their respective terminals and moved the switches. Then I removed the fan, disconnecting ONLY the wires that ran from the switch to the remote. Installed the bar and re hung the fan. I tested it and it worked great.

Now the strange part. About 2 days after this my fan occasionally turns on by itself. My wife thinks I messed up something in the wiring or that we have a ghost. So far the light has come on twice in 48hrs and the fan once. Could a mistake in the wiring lead to the fan coming on periodically? I think if I messed up the wiring either nothing would work or I would trip a breaker. I have tried all of our remotes in the house to see if that is the issue, they do not work the fan. And for the first week everything was fine.

Any ideas?

Fan

Check the dip switches on the remote receiver at the fan. A switch may have gotten changed during the re-model.

couldn't have. If it did the remote would not work as the dips need to match.
