What have I done wrong?

Yesterday I installed one light fixture, it works great.

Today I did a second one in the same manner but something is wrong. The major difference with that the new fixture is that instead of 6 wires (3 pairs) there are 3 individual wires for it to connect to. This difference still allowed the original fixture to work fine.

I made a couple ofchanges to try and fix it, however they may also now be the problem.

1- wrapped some copper wire around the wires to get some better contact

2. screwed the panel onto that metal tongue extra tight, managed to move the tongue about an inch clockwise

Does the order of the wires matter? Should I reposition that tongue/prong thing?

When you turn the lights back on after fiddling with them they flicker on for a second and then the power goes out

Again, we are in the US, yours may be different:

When you say you lose power do you mean it just stops workig or does it trip a breaker or blow a fuse?

Since your wiring system is 240 volt (I think) you should have 2 colored wires and then a bare or green wire. From what you are describing the bare/green should go the the same lug as the metal tongue. The other two wires go to the other two connections. It should not make any difference which way they are wired.

Make sure you strip a little insulation from the wire to make good contact to the wire.

Some of them fancy pictures would be helpful too!

Tried it and it fixed the problem! Didn't even need a storybook !

Thanks
