bad ceiling fan capacitor?

It wont work. I took out the switch, tested it, and it works fine. So, maybe the fan is bad, but maybe the capacitor is no good. Is this a start capacitor? Can I spin the fan to get it started and therefore prove that the capacitor is bad.

i don't think those motors have capacitors. they have stator windings that are used to start the motor. the only way to fix is to re-wind the whole motor.

I was told "the message is too short, please add 25 characters.". I think this is now enough.

Most of the time when the capacitor block fails, the fan still works but it no longer has all of the original speeds.

On most models, yes, you can replace the capacitor block. I recommend calling the fan manufacturer for details.
