kitchen recessed lights-how far from wall?

how far from the wall do you generally place lights in kitchen. If they are too far away, you would get shadows where you are working on countertop. ceiling is standard 8'. normal cabinet depth of 24"

I revised search and found an old post withsome saying center them 25" from rough. which would about put it centered right at edge of the countertop. sound right? oh, 6" cans for general lighting. probably baffle trim.

Yes, I would say that is about right. If you have uppers between 18-24" will light the counter well. If no uppers then 12" works good.
