Ribbed vs. Smooth wires - how can you tell?

I Just Bought A Hampton Bay Chandelier 102 512. It Tells Me To Connect The Black Wire To The Smooth Fixture Lead Wire And The White To The Ribbed Lead Wire. However, The Lamp Wires Seem Identical. How Do I Tell Which Is Ribbed Vs. Smooth?

Look at the side of the cable or run your finger over it. It may help to look under a lamp so the ridges show up better.

Thanks

I ran my finger along and felt the difference - I was expecting to see a difference but it has clear casing and couldn't see it.
Thanks for your help.
