Question replacing 48" florescents with recessed cans

I currently have, in the middle of a 9' x 14' kitchen with 8' ceiling, a ceiling light fixture with two 48" florescent bulbs. I would like to replace this with recessed cans. Would it be safe to say that eight R30 CFLs spaced about 4' apart would do the job? I figured two 48" bulbs of about 2800 to 3000 lumens each (5600 to 6000 Lumens) are close to eight R30 CFLs listed at 720 lumens each (5760 lumens).

I believe since you are calculating lumen's to lumen's, that your calculations would be correct. The thing that will change things is the light may be more directed down depending on your trim selection.
