3 way switch

Hello,
Can I use a a 3way switch for a 2 way circuit? If so, does the hot go to the Common, then the wire to the light goes on one of the other 2?

Yes, but why? Switches are cheap. Why not use the right one.

Above assumes a standard toggle switch not a dimmer.

Thanks. I had a few extra 3-ways and just wanted to know if they would get the job done safely, instead of going out and buying additional switches. No dimmers.

20 Amp breaker and light fixtures

Hey guys, I have a question. My sister is redoing some wiring at her new house and is putting in a new breaker since all of hers are over-loaded. A book she has on the subject says that you should not use 20 amp breakers if they are going to have light fixtures on them. I checked, and all the breakers at my house are 20 amp (I did not install them, that is how they were when the house was sold). So far I have not had my house catch on fire or anything. :P I was just wondering why you cannot have 20 amp breakers for light fixtures. Is it dangerous of something? Thanks, DuradRead More

wiring and the range fan

The fan in the range hood died. I picked up a new one. In the hood, I have a white wire and a black wire. The new fan has a white, red and black wire all connected to a plug like connection. the receiving part for this connection is not inplace on the hood. The hood simply has 2 wires and no attachment. How should I proceed?Read More
