wiring six lights with switch at the end of run
I am using 12 gauge 3 wire wiring and want to hook up 6 recessed lights with a switch at the end of the run. Please correct me if I am wrong. From my source wire, I will connect black from source to black on exit wire and connect the two whites from the source and exit wires to the black and white of the light fixture and of course grounds together. Then, the same on the next light and so on to the switch where I will connect white on bottom and black on top of my 1000 watt dimmer switch. My understanding is the black will be continuous to the switch and the white will be broken by each light fixture. If this is not correct, please help!

You stated 12-3 wire but you didn't mention the red wire.
At each light all whites are tied together.
At the first light the red and the black from the light are tied together.
The black from the power source cable goes to the red.
At lights 2,3, 4, and 5 blacks from cable and from light connected.
At lights 2,3, 4, and 5 the two reds connected together.
At light 6 the red goes to the white of a 12-2 to the switch. That white is remarked red on both ends or any color except white, green, or gray.
At light 6 the black of the 12-3, 12-2, and light are tied together.
Moving the power source to the switch or other end would be simpler since you could use 12-2

I suspect on the dimmer you meant black and red, not black and white although I have installed 3 wire dimmers before but then you would use black red and white. the red feeds back to the lights and makes a joint at each one.
