42 watt bulb using 200 watts????
I bought a Reliance amp/watt load tester and found while checking my florescent bulbs I found a 23 watt using 130 watt draw and a 42 watt drawing 200 watt draw. Why is this?
I insalled a 60 watt incandesent and it showed 60 watt draw so I know the tester is working.

Rick, I found one negative report, may be others, but it matched your problem "it reports way high on non-sinusoidal loads." Let's see if anyone else has experience with one, but I would keep my receipt handy.

The issue with the tester they do not read the harmomic load very well as I allready see it from my tester so to order to read the high harmonic or electronic loads I have to use the true RMS test meter which it will read thru the high harmoic and read the true Root Mean Square.
That one reason why some tester fail to read the true wattage on CFL due the electronic ballast that run very high HZ and it can throw the test meter way off wack.
Same thing if you try to read the computer power drawage it can get false reading with average reading test meter and with True RMS meter it will reflect correct wattage / amprage reading.
That why some of very good well priced test meter can able have this feature they cost more than standard test meter but it will do the task nice.
