bathroom light fixture

Trying to install a new light fixture on bathroom wall. Instructions state to connect cross bar to outlet box. wall plate will then connect to mounting screws on the cross bar. Problem being there is no outlet box, just wires coming out through wall. If I install an outlet box it will not be center since center is right on the edge of the stud. Any ideas? Thanks.

The OP stated there is a stud right on the edge of center. What you recommened would not do him any good.

meeker93, you can use one of 2 different types of boxes.

1) you could use a saddle type box. Saddle Box

2) you could use a pancake box pancake box

box 1 mounts directly over a stud, while box number 2 mounts directly onto a stud. It can be mounted off center, so you can easily center your light right where it needs to be. IMHO i would recommend box type 2, the pancake box.

Ok sorry I was thinking he meant the light was directly between 2 studs

a pancake box is the way to go then
