Wiring ceiling fan/light in new home

I'm installing a fan/light. There are two switches on the wall. Assuming one for light - other for fan. In the ceiling box there's a RED wire. Investigation tells me that it's for the light kit. BUT in the instructions for the fan it's telling me to connect the fan's blue & black wire to the house Black... Doesn't tell me what to do with the RED.
One forum said to twist the red 'with' the black. I did, but BOTH switches operated BOTH the fan and the light..
not sure how to wire the light kit. tks!!

Welcome to the forums. White to white. Black to black. Blue to red. All grounds together and if the box is metal pgitailed to the box.

Note: Be sure the box is fan rated.
