Vintage pull down knob light fixture
One of our porcelain wall light fixtures will turn on when the knob is pulled down but will not stay on. Any suggestions? I do not know how the mechanism works. Thanks.

What knob is pulled down. Are you saying there is a switch on the light or wall or what? I never heard of a light fixture like you seem to be describing. Can you try again or post pictures?

No wall switch
There is no wall switch. There are a pair of light sconces on either side of the medicine cabinet. A globe light bulb screws into the base so the lightbulb is upright. To turn the light on there is a knob at the base of the fixture that is pulled down. It's almost like it's on a spring because it doesn't stay down but the light stays on. To turn the light off, one pulls down again and it's off. So the switch is in there. Thanks

Sounds like the knob is part of the switch or you have a standard pull chain switch and the lnob connects to the chain. The action you describe is how pull chain switches work. You probably have a bad switch.you need to replace. You may not be able to get an exact replacement but you should be able to find a suitable replacement. You may need to remove the lamp base or cover to see exactly what you have. Posting pictures of what you find would be helpful. http://forum.doityourself.com/electr...your-post.html
