Dimmer on exhaust Fan?

Can I install a normal dimmer switch that will be connected to a bathroom exhaust fan?

Currently I have the exhaust fan in a small fermentation room with the usual on/off switch. I want to slow down the rate of exhaust. I'm hoping this will do the trick rather than purchasing a slower less-powerful fan.

Thanks

Welcome to the forums! A "dimmer" in the oldest sense...no. Check the various sites, such as Leviton, Pass Seymour and others to see if they have a fan rated dimmer that will handle the load of your fan.

Broan, and other fan manufactures I'm sure, make speed controls designed to control fans. They work quite well. A standard dimmer will either burn out the dimmer or burn out the fan rather quickly. They will also not have much range on them.
