Motion sensor lights stay on

I've had this for many years. It says on in broad daylight now - no matter how I adjust duration of light or sensitivity.
I climbed back up the ladder to clean the sensor, and noticed the two lights just dangling there - but still on. When I managed to unscrew them, both bases were detached (loose, not completely separated) from the light bulbs (floodlights). Would be interested to know how this happened. Would that affect the motion sensing?

It could have been something as simple as age, physical damage or a nearby lightning strike (surge) that did a TKO on your sensor. If they are old and in as bad of shape as you say, it's time.
