Photocell for hanging ext porch light - suggestions?
I have a customer with a hanging ext porch light (see pic-covered porch) and am trying to firgure out the best way (if there is one) to get a photocell hooked up to it. ALSO cosmetics is certainly a factor, not dying for anything that sticks out like a sore thumb. Hoping there are some suggestions out there, needed asap!

You could mount a photocell in the metal canopy. They only take a 1/2" hole and would remain innocuous. You would just bring the wiring from the canopy (before the lights) into and out of the photocell. To do this you would cut the black wire and hook one end to the photocell pigtail, and the other end of the black wire to the other pigtail. You will need to remember the switch on the wall must be on for the photocell to operate. Being under that much cover will cause it to come on early and go off later, just for info.

Chandler, thx for the info! Would that 1/2" photocell be available @ a HD or Lowes? Or have to go to specialty electric store? Seems like the ones @ Lowes or HD are big and bulky or built into a plate or something. ALSO when u say canopy, do u mean the small round dome AFTER the ceiling plate? Not sure where to access the wires.
Any links to any pages/pics go for it
thx for the reply!

It would be in the upper canopy. What might work is a lamp post photocell. You would drill a hole for the photocell (round tube to stick through. You would want to try to position it in an area as flat as possible so as much as possible of the photocell sticks out. A couple dabs of silicon should hold it if the tube part isn't threaded.
