Unsuccessful installing dimmer switch

I can't figure out why the dimmer switch I installed won't work. The lights don't even come on. I put back the old switch, and it still works.

The dimmer is for the ceiling flood lights in my kitchen. I replaced the incandescent bulbs with dimmable flourescent bulbs. I twised the wires from thje dimmer around the wall wires--both the black wires and the ground--but still no dice.

Any thoughts?

Even though you have dimable fluorescent bulbs the dimmer may not be compatible with dimable fluorescents. Is it? Give us make and model number and perhaps someone here will know.

You might have a bad dimmer. It has been known to happen.
