Question Risk in using a halogen bulb in a metal halide light fixture?

My front porch light fixture houses a metal halide bulb. What is the risk in using a regular halogen bulb inside a metal halide fixture.

I prefer the "warm white" color of a halogen bulb to the "cold white" color of metal halide. Also, metal halide takes long before it reaches its full brightness, which is another reason I'd like to replace the porch light with a halogen bulb.

Do a search on halogen bulb vs metal halide . It appears that the HID has a longer life and produces more lumens per watt than the halogen. but loses brightness as it ages. It also has some mercury in it.

A halogen bulb is a type of incandescent and utilizes line voltage (120). A metal halide bulb uses a ballast to step up the voltage.

I think you option is to change the fixture.

I agree with Jim, you are talking apples and pears. Either put in a Metal Halide bulb or change the fixture. I don't see any options.

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to have the fixture replaced with a regular incandescent one.
