right forum? here goes.....

We have some nice, expensive, overhead ceiling fans in a place we just bought. These are gold things, and come down and extend to 4 opposing lite bulbs. They come down from a vaulted ceiling. I'll need 12' step ladder to get up there to the fan part.

The light bulbs in most of them rotate freely. How freely? Don't know; I don't want to screw the cords up.

It seems I need to take them down and work on them to stabilize the bulbs.

How do I take them off the downward pedestal they drop down on? I can do that myself.

To go way on up to where they attach, I'll have to have guys with ladders come in and pay for the fix.

I need to take them down, work on them, reassemble, and remount back on the downward thing.

Is this something I can do?

Do you have a make and model number for the fans.

Can you post some pictures. http://forum.doityourself.com/electr...your-post.html

So is it really the sockets that rotate? Can you hold the sockets and unscrew the bulbs?

No way to get make/model except by getting the ladder inside and climbing up there.

No. They things have no room to hold 'em. The bulb screws out, in some. In others, it stay inside. To screw a bulb in, the fixtures turn real easy. Basically, I can unscrew some, others I can't screw inside tight enough.

I think I'm going to have to get the things down and work on each one.

If possible try removing just the light kit not the whole fan.

If you do it by your self I suggest you rent a scaffold and get a friend to help. Done enough of them on ladders to say I do not recommend you do it that way.

They do make a 2 man step ladder with steps on both sides. That way a friend can help. A good rental store should have them but I still vote for the scaffold as better.
