How much wattage/bulbs for room size.

I'm finishing my basement and about to install recessed lighting. I've done calculations based on recommendations I've found online. The room is 14x24 so I'm interested in feedback on if I should go with 6 60 wt bulbs or 8 for 340 sq ft..
The wife wants to use dimmable CFL's for the lighting. But I wouldn't mind using incandescent first and maybe switching to LED in 2-3 yrs.

thoughts everyone on wattage I should use?

thanks
Mark

Lighting distribution using recessed lighting is affected by the mounting height, bulb beam spread, trim style, room usage, other lighting or windows availabe and the type of lighting ie task, general, ambient etc.

For general lighting a grid pattern of about 6' should provide suitable light distribution. A general rule using a PAR30 bulb with an open baffle is the circle of light will roughly equal the mounting height.
