Ceiling Fan Install- Outlet box

Installing a ceiling fan in my living room and there are cross braces along the ceiling joists. However, they are the same size as the joists, so the mount box will hang lower than the ceiling. In the instructions it states that the mount box should be recessed into the ceiling by at least 1/16".

Could I still use the ceiling brace with the regular mount box, since it seems like the most secure method, or should I buy a box with expanding brace?

Could you post a pic of your situation? There are pancake fan boxes that are 1/2" deep.

I couldn't get up there to take a pic. Can't move due to a day of gardening and cleaning up. However, the above image is from the manual. Picture the same thing, only the wood brace is the same height as the ceiling joist. Therefore, half inch box would probably be the best, other than that, it's the special brace mount that costs around $30.

In that case you would need a pancake box or something like this. These have additional space for the splices.

Fan & Fixture Mounting Box (deepest L-shaped)
