How to install ceiling fan/light in bedroom (no light fixture/wiring in ceiling)

The bedroom I would like to install a ceiling fan with light fixture has no wiring in the ceiling. Can I affix a new wire directly from the light switch and run it up to the ceiling? the light switch also works one of the bedroom outlets? thanks

Probably but it depends on if power comes in at the switch or receptacle how you do it. Tell us the wiring at the switch and at the receptacle. Tell us how many 2-wire (plus ground) cables at each box and how many 3-wire (plus ground) cables in any. Tell us how the wires from each cable are hooked up. Is only one of the plug-ins at the receptacle switched?

Assuming that you are able to run a Romex line you will also need to install the correct box designed for ceiling fans and ensure that it is mounted properly per code. Standard boxes will not support the fan and can't be used.
