2 basic questions - outlet and ceiling fan junction box

Replacing a light switch where there was an improper dimmer setup for a fan..the wires inside the outlet box are both black and both hot. Does it matter which goes to the top or bottom screws on my single pol switch? Also, no green ground wire in the outlet itself..

Other question - how can i tell if a fan ceiling box is appropriate / approved for a fan? questioning if the existing is..

Thanks!

Is there two white wires connected together in the back of the box? How did you determine both blacks were hot? If you used a non contact tester you reading is almost certainly wrong.

if the fixture box only has bent ears for connecting the fixture then its not to be used for a fan.a fan is a lot heavier and the boxes have studs to mount the fan too.it will say in the box its for use with ceiling fan and won't just be connected to the joist on one side.hope that helps
