Mounting height for wall sconce
Is there a typical height for a wall sconce in the bathroom?
Does it depends on the type of sconce? Some have the fixture turn up and some turn down.
Also, if you are facing the mirror, with the sink directly in front of you, is it a good idea to mount a single sconce to your right where there is a side wall? I am asking because I am thinking may be this would cause one side of your face to be lit and the other side dim?
But I am trying to put a medicine cabinet directly in front and there is no room for two sconces (left and right of cabinet).

I would not use a single sconce for the reason you state as well as the unbalanced look aesticically.
Typical heights are around 66" or so. Try to hold the fixture up to see what looks good.
