Hunter Fan remote receiver doing its own thing

My friend has a Hunter fan in her bedroom. It will do its own thing several times a day, sometimes turning on the light, sometimes the fan, etc.

Of course, the first thing I did was put a different code on the DIP switches, hoping she and a neighbor just had the same code.

Didn't work.

Her remote transmitter still works and the receiver will do everything the transmitter wants, but it just ALSO decides to do its own thing.

I'm guessing a bad receiver, but I'm reading lots of horror stories about Hunter fan remotes and their customer service.

The receiver on this fan is a big round one inside the light kit.

Any ideas?

With electronics it's simplest just to replace. As you guessed it may be a bad receiver. Replacement with a new one is about the only wat to test that with an intermittent problem.

However first you need to check all connections at the fan and wall switch if present. Don't just rely on visual. Remove and replace any wire nuts. You might have to check connections all the way back to the breaker box if a loose connection is the cause.

Me I'd just replace the receiver after checking the fan and switch connections.

My Hunter fan remote control is also doing its "own thing." It works nice, except it will change by itslef. At first I thought it was just the light turning on and off at strange intervals--20 minutes. Now, as I'm sitting here I've enjoyed the fan on high... it just turned to Low speed!!! I'm taking it back tomorrow... Anybody know if another model or brand works?

I finally got it to work. Don't accept the setting of the Dip code--four little toggle switches--factory-set on the remote and fan device. Calling up Hunter, they said to change it to some arbitrary number. I never thought I'd need to do this because I own no other fan with a remote code. Likewise, when my fan would change, no other person was in the house using TV remotes or the microwave--other devices Hunter said can cause fans to turn on or off and act kooky. They said it did not matter that nobody was operating these devices, the waves travel through the air and operate the remote inside the fan. Anyway, it's working great now and not changing on me.
