Is it okay to do this? Need advice on swag lamp

Hello there!

I have a tiffany lamp shade that was once a ceiling light fixture. All is gone but the tiffany shade so i decided to make a swag lamp with it. I bought a hanging lamp kit (chain, cord, hooks, etc.) and a socket. There is a feed through on/off switch on the cord, so can I connect the cord to the socket directly without hardwiring?

The guy at HD told me this is the kind of socket I need (but I've never fully trusted some of those guys!)
Here's the socket kit that I got:

Thanks. I hope this question isn't too dumb! I'm just always afraid of electrical stuff and don't want to do something I shouldn't!!

Looks OK. Remember the ribbed wire of the lamp cord goes to the silver screw of the light socket and wide blade of the plug. The switch interrupts the wire with no rib.
