Joe L: Rewired Light/Doesn't Work

I have 2 light, left and right of garage doors. The light switch is inside the house. I'm attempting to install a motion detector.
I removed the left light to fix a problem. Re-connected it and apparently wired it wrong. There are 2 black, 2 white and one red coming out of the wall. The light have 1 black and 1 white. I connected black to black and white to white. The left light went on. No light in the right light. I then attached the red wire at the left light to the black wire and both lights went on. However when I attached the red, white and black wires from the detector to the wires between the lights, it doesn't work. The lights go on and off with the switch, but the detector doesn't work.

Is this a 3-way switch? That is are there two switches controlling the lights from two different locations?

Red is typically the switched hot on the detector. Black supplies power to the detector.
