ceiling fan lamp
When I turn on the light it makes a loud static or short sound. It goes away most of the time, but obviously something is wrong. The sound is similar to when a bulb is about to go out but louder. What's wrong with it?

Welcome to the forums! With the power off at the breaker panel, remove the bulb. With needle nose pliers or hemostats pull down on the metal contact in the socket, slightly. It will make better connection and should do away with your buzzing. Let us know how it goes.

The tab could have sustained burn damage all this time. Yeah, replacing it is a good option. Cleaning the tab with an ink pen eraser may help, too. Glad you found the problem and have zeroed in on how to fix it. Cool.
