Converting ceiling lamp with plug to a hot wire box
I currently have a ceiling light like the one in the link below and I want to replace it with another hanging light except it has a plug on the end. The new light wants me to attach it to the ceiling, but wire it down to an outlet.
How do I convert the new light to fit my current box (similar to the link below)? Do I just cut off the 2 pronged end and attach the wire ends together with a wire nut?

Simple answer, yes. How does the lamp attach to the ceiling box? via chain or other? I know you said it was similar to the one in the pix, but having zip cord on it, tells me it is a swag lamp. An actual picture of the lamp would help so we can see what type lamp it is and how it attaches to the box. If you wire it in, you can cut the cord and wire nut the ends to the black and white wires in the ceiling box. The smooth wire is hot and the one with the ribs is neutral.

Hi Chandler,
My current light is almost, if not, the exact same kind as the one they are installing on the link with the various light bulbs on the edge. When I open it up all i see are white and black wires for each of the individual lights connected with a wire nut to the bare and ribbed one from the ceiling.

Do the black and white wires go all the way to the canopy? Is that where the black zip cord is attached to them? If so, you can either do as I said in post 2, cut the plug off and hardwire it into the ceiling box or you can use 12 gauge THHN wire (black and white) and wire nut all your blacks and whites together.
I am still in the dark on how this unit fastens to the ceiling. The wiring is simple, but if the attachment method is not solid, and the link doesn't show that, all your efforts at rewiring it won't work. A picture is worth 4 words, at least. http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...your-post.html
