Landscape/Well Lighting For Trees

Hello all,
I am starting my next project and need a little help. I want to install Well lighting in my yard to shine up on my trees. I do not want a halogen or metal halide light. I want to install a standard 120V UL listed Edison type bulb, the bulbs that screw in that we are all used to. I think this will give me the most versatility with light bulb choices. My question is where can I find these. I have searched and searched and I have found one place that has them, but they are $90 each and I need 5 of them. I was hoping that you guys would know of another place I could purchase them. They need to be water and weather resistant as they will be installed in the ground.

Thanks for the help,
Naicidrac

Have you looked at low voltage lighting? You will likely fine more of what your looking for rather then 120v stuff.

No I have not. I just want to stay away from a transformer as I dont know where I would put it and they get expensive. I want to use UF 12-2G wire for in ground burial. If I use the 12V lighting I will need a transformer and that starts to get expensive. I already have 120V underground running to my driveway lights which is controlled by a photocell. I just wanted to tie into that for my power.

Just remember that the UF wire is required to be buried 24", unless it is GFCI protected, then it can be buried 12"

Even with the cost of the transformer it still might be cheaper to go low voltage, although you might have some voltage drop issues depending on distance between lights. Best I can offer is to search google for "120 volt well light" or "line voltage well light" I found many that uses standard bulbs. One even at big orange but it is almost $200

Thanks Tolyn,
you said you found many. Would you be willing to supply the links. Here is the one I found.

PGAU999 Adjustable Well Light In Ground Lighting

Thanks for the info on the burial. I was planning on doing it about 12''-16''. I checked with city code and it requires 24'' just like you said. I will try to go deeper. I am have an electronic survey of my house that was done when I purchased it. I am going to map out exactly where the wire is in case I need to add a tree or something in the future. So if I put in a GFCI somewhere in that circuit I can only bury it 12''? I could put a GFCI somewhere in that line.

Thanks again

Yes. Best way to do it is to install a GFCI receptacle (or flat faced) as soon as the circuit exits the house/building. Then the entire circuit will be protected. If you have ground critters (gophers) you may still want to protect it with PVC. (Although pulling UF through PVC is a PAIN!)

I will PM some links
