2 lights instead of ceiling fan

The home I just bought is wired for a ceiling fan with light in the rec room. Both the light and the fan have there own switch. Instead of a fan I want a center light and then tie on to the fan wiring to run a small hanging light in the corner. Would this cause any problems? Hope this isn't too confusing... Thanks

First, do you have a way of getting the wiring to the corner for the new light you want to install? I think that will be the biggest issue. You will either need to run wire from the switch or from the old ceiling fan location. Either way it's pulling wires through existing walls.

What kind of access do you have to the ceiling?

I assume you want the lights each on their own switch?

As long as you are able to pull the required new wire from the old fan ceiling box to the new location, you will have no problem. Just attach the white wire to white in the ceiling box, the new black wire to the old fan switch lead and attach the bare ground wire to existing bare ground.
