Recessed light trim bracket

I have a new construction recessed light with broken side trim brackets. Is there replacement brackets out there? If not is it possible to replace just the can on a new construction setup if I have no access to above.

On most recessed fixtures.....the interior can drops down thru the ceiling for servicing. You may see three 1/4" hex head screws. Remove those and the can will slide out.

I believe the bracket you are refering to is punched into the can when it's new. Not a replacement item. If you drop the can it may be easier to come up with a fix.....or.......replace the can.

Thanks.

I am able to get the can out of the bracket, I haven't looked yet to see if I can take the can off the junction box connected to the cans bracket. I assume there is some sort of clip.

Then it sounds like I just have to find the same size can and replace just the can and keep the bracket etc?

You might want to use a remodel fixture to replace the old fixture.

Cutting the drywall may save you some time. Patching is not all that hard.

There are a lot of different recessed light fixtures on the market, and they are designed and made differently. At the same time, the closer we can come to seeing what you're looking at, the more focused we can make our advice.

To help us help you better, could you:
  • Post the make and model of the fixture you have; or
  • Post a link to the information sheet for that fixture; or
  • Post some pictures, including at least one of any label(s) on the housing. See How To Include Pictures.
