Building Custom Desk Lamp - Need Help
Ok, let me start off by saying that I have zero experience with electrical wiring so, any help would be much appreciated. I'm an artist and don't consider myself very "mechanically minded" but, i'm trying to learn by designing my own projects.
So, I designed this "Mad Scientist" desk lamp that I want to put together as a gift for a friend. The idea is to have 3 light sockets that are controlled by their own independent toggle switches. Each toggle would have a small indicator light that would be on when the switch is off (standby light). Then all 3 socket/toggle/standby lights would be wired to a dimmer control knob and then into a standard two prong wall plug.
Below are a few drawings and photos of the components I'd like to wire together. Can anyone help me with a diagram or info on how to make this system work? Is this even safe/possible?

If I read correctly you want the indicator lights on when the main light is off. If the indicator lights are dimable then a SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) switch will work. If the indicator lights are not dimable, most LEDs for instance, then you will need DPDT (Double Pole Double Throw) switches. I'd advise not dimming the indicator lights. The switch in your picture seems to be a SPST switch which would be incorrect if you want the indicator lights on when the main lights are off. If the box is metal you should use a grounded cord set. If it is plastic yoyu should at least use a polarized cord set.
