Ceiling Fan Installation

I am trying to install a ceiling fan to the ceiling outlet box. I have purchased mounting screws, but how do I install the mounting bracket to the box?

I don't understand your question. Why did you have to purchase mounting screws? Didn't they come with the fan? Why can't you use them? This is a fan rated box* you are mounting the bracket to isn't it? What is the make and model number of the fan?

*A fan rated box has mounting posts not ears and uses 10-24 not 8-32 machine screws.

The fan rated box should have threaded bosses for the screws to thread into.

we bought a home that the fans were taken out. The oultet box remained, but the screws did not. We purchased a fan that did not come with the necessary screws. Apparently, the outlet box and screws have to be purchased separately. It appears that the screws that go into the mounting bracket and outlet box go into the units with a lock washer...is that correct? It just seems like it would fall without a nut on the other side..thank you for help. If you still want, I'll give you the make and model when I have it in front of me

The box should have threaded bosses (tubes) as PC boss said. Do they? See the two tubes in the corners of the box below. That is where the 10-24 screws go.

If it looks like one of these you need to change out the box.

The box or the bracket behind the box will be threaded and act as a nut. The lock washer stops it from backing out.
