Security Lighting Problem

Hello,

I bought a Heath Zenith Motion Sensor Control Light and I'm having problems with this security light.
I turn the light setting at On-time -1 minute, Dual Bright - Dusk to Dawn, Lamp Mode - soft and for some reason the light stays on all night without motion!
I thought it might be the light, but I bought another one and the same thing happens!!

The operations are::
Test - 5 seconds ( day,night )
Normal - 1,5,20 minutes ( night )
Manual - until dawn ( night )
Accent 3,6 Hr. to dawn ( night )

You need to turn off the Dual Bright feature.

Also.... what type of lights are you controlling with that new sensor ?

Maybe you don't understand what I meant, sorry for the confusion!

The dual bright setting is the setting you choose from the following::

:: Off
:: 3
:: 6
:: Dusk to Dawn

Maybe this will help!!
This is were I bought this!

When you said that your " light stays on all night without motion", were they on at full brightness, or at half brightness?
That matters, because the "Dual brite" feature means that (if it is working properly) the light will be on, at ~ half brightness, until motion is detected, then the light will come up to full brightness, for the specified length of time (1 min in your original post).

IIRC, the settings you listed in post #3, indicate how long the "Dual Brite" feature is in effect:

:: Off The DB feature is not in effect light works (?) like a "regular light.
:: 3 The DB feature is in effect for 3 hours after dusk, then it works (?) like a "regular light.
:: 6 The DB feature is in effect for 6 hours after dusk, then it works (?) like a "regular light.
:: Dusk to Dawn

I hope that I've remembered those settings correctly, and that this helps.

EDIT TO ADD: From their website:

Dual Brite (if applicable) – allows light to come on half bright for selected time after dusk (Off, 3 hour, 6 hour, or Dusk-to-Dawn). If enabled, the light will turn full bright when motion is detected and will return to dim after selected on-time has passed. Selecting OFF disables this feature and motion sensing features will work as described.

I have the setting on Dusk to Dawn!!
Is that dual bright also?

These are my settings again.
If I turn the Dusk to Dawn off, then they lights will come
on during the day also, which we all don't want!

Settings I have are in bold!

Dual Bright
Off, 3, 6, Dusk To Dawn
If I turn this off, then the lights will work during the day also!
And they are in minutes, not hours!

Lamp Mode
Normal, Soft, Flash

Auto Mode
Test, 1, 5, 20

Maybe I'm not understanding, but I've asked many people and
read many forums and from the looks of it, these types of
lights are crap and never work easily!!

As PJ said turn off the dual bright feature and see if it works as expected. With the dual bright on the light will never go out (within the set time period) only be dimmer.

Note if you are not using incandescent bulbs they may not even dim.

[QUOTE]Dual Bright
Off, 3, 6, Dusk To Dawn
If I turn this off, then the lights will work during the day also!
And they are in minutes, not hours!

No, those numbers indicate the number of hours that the light will function after dusk, presuming that it is wired correctly, and working as advertised.

The numbers on the other switch are the number of minutes that the light will come on,or brighten, after motion is detected.

When you say "If I turn this off, then the lights will work during the day also!" do you mean that the light is on constantly, at one brightness level, or is the "dual brite " feature also working, or is the light off (in daylight), but comes on when motion is detected?

Somehow, the last sentences of my previous post (#7) disappeared.(probably my butterfingered typing) Here they are:

Disclaimer: my comments are based on info that I got when I purchased/installed my lights -2 years ago. It is possible that the functions have changed.

I hope that you can resolve your problem.

So if I turn the DualBright off, then
the light will work at dusk to dawn?

That's were i'm getting confused with the dusk to dawn!
I don't want the light to work during the day!

What do I need to do in order to get the lights to work only at night?

It should, but it will go completely off, rather than dim, when it times out.

What do I need to do in order to get the lights to work only at night?
An incandescent or halogen bulb. Your choice of DualBright or off/on.
