Question Garage Door Opener light - always remains ON

We own an old Allister Access 3000 garage door opener. All functions of the garage door, opening/closing with remote or with wall-switch etc. are being performed fine. Only issue is that the light attached to the unit remains ON all the time. If I disconnect the power from the opener - of course the light goes off. On reconnect the light remains OFF till I operate the garage. Once I open or close the garage door, the light comes on (as it should) but then never goes off thereafter. This is NOT what it used to be. Recently I had to change the light adapter on the unit and since then this problem has surfaced. Any tips on how to fix this?

Have you tried screwing the bulb directly into the light fixture on the GDO instead of using the adaptor*. Be sure to use an incandescent light bulb for your test.

*Assumes "adaptor" is a device to transfer power from the GDO light fixture to other lamp holders.

I had the same issue except I was not using an adapter. A Google search told me the circuit board function had gone bad. I replaced the opener. The board was half the cost of the opener.
