I can not figure out how I changed these bulbs!

We purchased this home with these two fixtures and recently had outdoor outlets added to this circuit, which are all on a switch timer inside. I noticed one bulb in one fixture was burnt out about a month ago and then a few days ago I noticed that neither outside light fixture was coming on anymore. The Christmas lights that are hooked up the the outlets on the same circuit are still coming on fine. I'm assuming that it is just a weird coincidence and all the bulbs have just burnt out at once. Unless someone has another idea, which is why I included the information about new wiring. The question is, how do I open this fixture to change the bulbs. I've done it before...I just can't remember how. The round ball on the bottom doesn't turn. The brass bottom spins around the glass. The top little ball comes off completely but then there are wires to contend with and it doesn't look like I'm on the right track. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

Try twisting the little nipple looking things on the bottom or top.
