Fire Rated downlights or Non fire rated downlights ?
What are the regulations around downlights having to be fire rated or non fire rated? Im looking to put downlights in our new home and keep getting told different reasons for using fire rated ones. Really need to find out if we can get around using fire rated downlights as the cost does tend to jump quite a large amount! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forums!
I'm not familiar with fire-rated downlights. Could you expand a bit on that? If you mean recessed fixtures, the ratimgs here are for AT (air tight) and IC (insulation compatible).
What is the space above the ceiling that they'll be installed in?

You're in the UK,so codes differ. Here we have "IC" or insulation contact and "non-ic" fixtures. Not sure how a light fixture surviving a 1500*F fire and all the sheetrock and framing in cinders would matter.
Who is telling you this and from what authority? There may be regs out there

Fire rated enclosures are needed where the ceiling is part of the fire barrier between floors. Mostly this would be commercial or in a multi story residential setting. They help to maintain a fire barrier between units and floors.
